On October 3, 2014, Ty missed school for the first time so that he could get his HUMONGOUS tonsils (and adenoids) taken out. Although he doesn't look like it in this picture, he was pretty nervous before they took him back. But they gave him this little fish game, and that took his mind off of things.
Justin and I were amazed how quickly the surgery went. We went out to the waiting room after they took him back, and the surgeon came out and got us 20 minutes later. Poor little Ty was not very happy when he woke up from the anesthesia. He was crying that he was scared and that his throat hurt and his hand hurt (from his IV...I can sympathize with that. When he was born they put the IV in my hand and it hurt like crazy for 2 days!) But the nurse gave him some medicine and he fell asleep for about 10 minutes cuddling with me, and when he woke up he was calmed down and ate a popsicle and cup of pudding. After about another hour...home we went. He did pretty well the rest of the weekend (as long as he got his pain meds on time) except for at night. WHEW! It was like having a newborn again. He woke up crying like every 1 1/2 -2 hours. That happened every night for the first week or so. It was NOT fun!
Ty was on fall break during the 2 weeks of his recovery, so he spent his time convalescing in my office at work. Poor little guy... I fixed him up a little bed on my floor and he watched a lot of movies, played with his sticker books, played games on my phone and napped. By the end of the two weeks he was begging me to take him to Wendy's every few hours. Seems like having his tonsils out has really increased his appetite . YAY! He also sleeps so much more soundly now and NO MORE SNORING!
