Scientist of the Year

Ty's science project for February was that he had to make an invention that incorporated at least one simple machine.  Here he is manufacturing his "Bully Stopper," which is a machine that hooks to a doorknob for a kid's treehouse or clubhouse and pops a balloon when an intruder is trying to enter.

Ty was so excited about this project and got the whole family involved.  Obviously, Justin helped with the design and manufacturing process.  I helped with the marketing.  And even Grandpa got involved, giving Ty a steel ball that he's had in his workshop for years.
The cutest part of this whole thing is that Ty insisted on bringing his tool belt to school on the day of the presentation.  The teacher sent home pictures, and you can see he wore his tool belt while he was doing his presentation.  I went to eat lunch with the boys that day and they had all done their presentations but the teachers hadn't yet decided on the winners.  Ty was so nervous, hoping that he had placed.
As soon as he stepped off the bus, he was holding this award out for me to see and he said, "Winner of the WHOLE THIRD GRADE!"  Woot Woot!  So proud of my boy!!!
