Hold on Just a Minute Here...

I've decided that there simply must be some sort of time-continuum warp going on here because this was my baby just a few short months ago...

...and this past weekend somehow he turned 2!!!! That is simply not possible. How did that happen???? All I know is this is simply going WAY too fast! Looking at the difference in him between these two pictures almost makes me tear up a little because I still think of him as a baby, and obviously he's a little boy now.

We had a little celebration at home with just the 3 of us on Ty's actual birthday (Friday 10/16/09). He had been practicing blowing out his candles for his big party so we let him have one more go of it with this cupcake. He still mostly tries to "spit" out the candles instead of blowing, but it gets the job done and it sure is cute so who cares.

Helping Daddy assemble his present...Ty sure was in a hurry to get this thing moving!!

It may be cold out, but when there's serious work (aka playing) to be done that's just a sacrifice you have to make.

This is my second Wilton cake that I have made for his birthday. Last year he had a puppy cake. I must say I'm pretty proud of how it turned out this year even though I had quite a struggle getting my icing red instead of pink. His party was held at the Brooklyn Kid's Park on 10/18/09.

"Spitting" out his candles.

He got so many presents we're having a hard time finding space for all of them in our little house...what a good problem for a kid to have. Hopefully one day soon we'll have an entire second floor for all of this stuff (not to mention all of his brother's stuff).

How is it that kids seem to learn the concept of "mine" without being taught. I swear I don't know how Ty learned that certain things belong to him and not other people, but he's been very possessive of his toys lately. In the picture above is his buddy Stephen who innocently came over to check out Ty's new tractor only to have Ty promptly grab it away and yell at him, "No, Owen. Mine!" (apparently he wasn't paying attention to who exactly he was yelling at because Owen is in the background with his hand in his pants. HA! The things cameras catch.) I suppose it's all just par for the course with two year olds.

He did a really good job this year of unwrapping his presents. He seemed to really get excited to see what was in each package. That is until you tried to take it away from him so that he could open the next one. One of his favorite presents was his miter saw that he got from Jim.

Wearing his safety goggles just like Mommy would want.

This is how WE smash a pinata! It really seemed like Ty had a good time at the party. I really hope so even though he won't remember it firsthand. I know that I had such a good time celebrating my little man with all our family and friends. I'm so thankful for another year of being "Mommy" to this amazing boy. I am just in awe of him. He is such a perfect gift from God; healthy, smart, funny...just perfect, in short. Oh, how much I love him!!

Hopefully he likes his little brother this much. It's hard to believe he will be here in just 3 more months! I'm getting so excited!!!!

And So Fall Begins...

Is it a boat or a wagon???
Justin got a wild hair one day and decided to make a wagon for Ty, and I must say it is the coolest wagon I've ever seen. Ty absolutely LOVES it!! I have spent many hours pulling him in it already, and it's only been in existance for a few weeks. On rainy days, I had to push him back and forth in a straight line on the front porch. If I would stop I would hear repeatedly, "Mommy, pull", "Mommy, do it", or "I ride the boat." I wonder how it will go when he has to share it with his brother....

Ty and Merlin
Ty's Grandma and Grandpa Barnhart recently got a pony for all the grandkids. His name is Merlin, and he's such a sweet pony. The first few times we had Ty ride him he really didn't seem to like it too much, but he was riding bareback. Now that they have a saddle for him he just loved riding him. We all think it seems to help Ty feel more comfortable that he has the saddle horn to hold on to. He kept saying, "I ride a pony." So cute...

Sticky Fingers
I know this is unsanitary, but Ty has recently developed a love of peanutbutter. He points at the cabinet and says, "Butter." I only let him stick his fingers in it this one day because it was so funny. Now he eats it off of a spoon.

I just love this picture. Ty did that completely on his own. He's so funny.

Sending Summer Out in Style

Ty's First Time at the Circus: 9/11/09
In keeping with the entry below, we took Ty to the circus for the first time. Judging from his reaction to the Dixie Stampede in Gatlinburg , we were sure he would have a ball at the circus, especially since he has recently been learning his animals (specifically horse and elephant...both of which they have at the circus). It was hard to judge whether or not he had a good time, though. He pretty much just sat and started most of the time. I think he was just tired. We went to a Friday night show that started at 7:30. His bedtime is usually around 8:30 so by intermission he was laying down on Justin's lap. He seemed to perk up a little during the second half of the show (perhaps it was the sugar from the $12 bag of cotton candy setting in). That's when they had most of the animals, which is what he likes best.

Colts Vs. Jaguars 9/13/09
Justin and I went on a date to the Colt's season opener this year while Ty stayed at his babysitter, Stacie's house. We had a lot of fun. It was my first time in the new Lucas Oil Stadium so that was really neat to see. Justin was so funny because he was analyzing every aspect of the stadium's construction process the whole time. Plus, the icing on the cake was the Colts WON!!

Tractor and Engine Show at Conner Prairie 9/19/09
Justin entered the tractor in his first official show this weekend. He pressure washed it and still had the dirtiest tractor there. Most of those tractors are just for show, but he still uses his so it's more authentic. I think that makes it better than all the rest, of course. Grandpa Barnhart was there too with all his cool old engines. Ada, Owen and Uncle Collin even came too!
